International Professional Trainings
Participation in international professional programmes provides an excellent opportunity for the SAO staff to broaden professional knowledge and further develop audit practices. Based on this ground, the SAO makes use of the possibilities offered by the International Auditor Fellowship programme organised by the US Government Accountability Office, as well as the International Training Courses organised under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) in collaboration with the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG).
During the Auditor Fellowship Programme, fellows are provided with information about the audit methodology applied and the procedures followed by the GAO. Participants of the programme also have the opportunity to share experiences about their own audit practices.
Dr. Árpád Kovács, former President of the SAO was the first SAO staff member to participate in this approximately 4-month programme providing practical and theoretical knowledge to the fellows in 1989. Since then, 9 additional SAO colleagues had the opportunity to further develop their professional skills at the GAO.
The scholarship of ITEC launched by a decision of the Indian Cabinet provides SAO colleagues with the opportunity to apply for the International Training Courses organised by our Indian partner institution every year. The essential goal of this training programme is to provide possibility for public auditors coming from different countries to obtain information about various audit experiences, as well as to further develop their professional competencies.
Until recently approximately 1800 auditors - from almost 90 countries of the world - participated in the training programme. Since 1990 nearly 20 auditors represented the SAO at this programme. Since April 2002 the courses have been taking place in the International Centre for Information Systems and Audit (iCISA) established by the C&AG basically for ensuring the training for its own staff.
