Innovation was in the focus of the latest meeting of European SAIs. The IX EUROSAI Congress, held in The Hague between 16-19 June 2014 was attended by the SAIs of 47 European countries and the European Court of Auditors. The five-member delegation of the State Audit Office of Hungary (SAO) was led by President László Domokos. The delegates of the SAO held presentations and represented Hungary actively during the various professional programmes.
The EUROSAI Congress is convened every three years. This year’s event organised in The Hague focused on two major topics. The Congress discussed the mid-term review of the first Strategic Plan of the organisation approved in 2011 on the basis of the experience of the past three years. The SAO will have an important role in the implementation of the Strategic Plan due to the fact that it took over the chairmanship of the Goal Team focusing on Capacity Building from the French SAI. The main theme of the Congress was innovation: representatives of SAIs presented their innovative practices and experience during the theme sessions on 17-18 June.
SAO President László Domokos reported on the SAO’s related activities at the Meetings of the EUROSAI Governing Board. The delegates of the SAO contributed to various professional programmes on the value and benefits of the audit work, effective communication methods and the integrity survey helping the mapping of corruption risks of the public sector. Furthermore, the SAO discussed common issues at bilateral and multilateral side-meetings with a number of partners.
Since in every country there is only one Supreme Audit Institution, international relations and mutual exchange of experience is of primary importance for the State Audit Office of Hungary. Accordingly, the SAO is an active participant of the international arena, continuously shares its results and experience, adapts the latest international standards in its methodology and makes use of the good practices of other SAIs.
