The Programme and Budget Committee of UNIDO is holding its 29th session between 22 and 24 May 2013. Members of the Committee are scheduled to discuss the applications received for the position of external auditor. Gyula Pulay, supervisory manager and János Máté, assistant auditor of the State Audit Office of Hungary participated in the session.

During the first day of the session László Domokos, President of the State Audit Office of Hungary, and Balázs Csuday, Ambassador of Hungary to the Permanent Mission of Hungary to the UN Office in Vienna, organised a reception for the members of the Committee. Among the participants were the UN Ambassadors of Brazil and Japan, the Deputy Ambassadors of Norway and India, as well as the representatives of 20 other UNIDO member states.

At the beginning of the reception, László Domokos welcomed the participants and presented his application for the position of external auditor. The President emphasised, that it would be an honour to provide the external audit service to UNIDO, since by doing so the SAO can contribute to the grandiose goal of the organisation: to reduce poverty through sustainable industrial development. The President stressed that the decades of experience of the SAO guarantee the high level performance of the tasks of the external auditor. The different initiatives of the SAO, such as the Integrity Project, which serves the mapping of corruption risks, or the Good Practices Database, which provides a platform for sharing experience related to quality management show that besides its audit activity, the SAO strives to act as an advisor as well.

In connection with the position of external auditor, President Domokos emphasised that the aim of the SAO is not only to audit the regularity of the financial statements of UNIDO, but also to act as a ’shepherd dog‘ that promotes the economic and efficient operation of the organisation by providing guidance and advisory services and thus contributes to achieving UNIDO’s goals.
