SAO assessed the sustainability of residential care for the elderly

The State Audit Office of Hungary (SAO) has completed its comprehensive audit aimed at examining the sustainability of care for the elderly. The audit sought to determine the extent to which the reforms of recent years have prepared the residential care system set up for the elderly for the demographic challenges ahead. Furthermore, it was also evaluated how the systemic measures taken during the audited period have contributed to improving care. The SAO also analysed and evaluated whether the financing system that had been established was efficient, provided adequate incentives for quality care, and was sustainable in the long term, taking into account the budget’s capacity to bear the costs. In addition, the SAO examined whether information sources and information flow processes supporting strategic management and professional decision-making were available.
