Efficient use of our water resources can boost the competitiveness of agriculture
This year the State Audit Office of Hungary (SAO) is continuing its audits on the protection of domestic waters. In its latest audit on the subject, the SAO assessed the complex system of agricultural water management and the sustainability of agricultural water use for the years 2019-2023. The audit found that progress has been made in the efficient use of water resources, but that further improvements are needed, particularly in view of the consequences of climate change on water resources. The report of the State Audit Office of Hungary (SAO) on the audit of MNB (the central bank of Hungary) is now public. The audit focused mainly on real estate investments made by MNB through the business companies it set up. According to the SAO, the MNB did not always meet the requirements of economical operation, and the controls over its financial management were not fully fulfilled. The State Audit Office of Hungary (SAO) audited the investments of the Neumann János University Foundation in long-term debt securities. The SAO found that the investments did not comply with the requirements of responsible financial management. The SAO made recommendations to the auditees and also filed a criminal complaint for suspected mismanagement of public assets. Nyilvános az Állami Számvevőszéknek (ÁSZ) a Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB) ellenőrzéséről szóló jelentése. In its verdicts of 18 March 2025, the Budapest-Capital Regional Court found that the Hungarian State Treasury acted lawfully on the basis of the audits conducted by the State Audit Office of Hungary (SAO) on the subject of party financing. The SAO, acting within the scope of its duties, lawfully carried out the audit.
